Walk-in coolers and freezers in Tampa and surrounding areas

The walk-in is the heart of many kitchens and stores: it holds most of the inventory. At Tecnorima, with more than 30 years of experience, we install, repair and maintain walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers for restaurants, markets, hotels and food businesses in Tampa and surrounding areas.

Our walk-in services

New walk-in installation

We help you define the size, temperature and location of the walk-in based on what you’ll store and the space you have, indoors or outdoors. We install panels, doors, floor, evaporator and condensing unit, and leave the system running and tested.

Walk-in repair

We service walk-ins that won’t pull down to temperature, build up ice, leak water or have doors that won’t close. We check the complete system to find the cause.

Preventive maintenance

Condenser and evaporator cleaning plus inspection of defrost, drains, gaskets and controls, so your walk-in runs efficiently and without surprises.

Component replacement

Replacement of condensing units, evaporators, doors, gaskets, strip curtains, lights and damaged panels, without having to replace the entire walk-in.

Signs your walk-in needs attention

  • The inside temperature rises or takes a long time to recover after the door is opened.
  • Ice on the evaporator, the ceiling or around the door frame.
  • Water on the floor or puddles outside the box.
  • The door doesn’t close by itself, doesn’t seal or the gasket is torn.
  • Bulging, damp or moldy panels, a sign the insulation is wet.
  • The condensing unit runs nonstop or makes loud noises.

What we check on a walk-in

  1. Condensing unit: compressor, fans, coil, refrigerant pressures and electrical components.
  2. Evaporator: coil, fans, heaters and defrost cycle.
  3. Drain: that defrost water drains without freezing or clogging the line.
  4. Box: panels, seams, floor and insulation.
  5. Door: gaskets, hinges, self-closer, frame heater and strip curtain.
  6. Controls: thermostat, sensors and temperature alarms.

Walk-ins built for Tampa’s climate

Tampa’s heat and humidity make any walk-in work harder, especially when the condensing unit sits in the sun or on a roof. That’s why we choose equipment and locations with these conditions in mind, and we recommend a commercial refrigeration maintenance plan to keep the system performing.

If you need to replace the condensing unit or the complete system, see our commercial refrigeration installation service.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a walk-in cooler and a walk-in freezer?

A walk-in cooler keeps products refrigerated, generally between 35 °F and 41 °F. A walk-in freezer runs below freezing, usually around 0 °F or lower. Some businesses combine both in one box with an interior partition.

Why is ice forming in my walk-in?

The most common causes are a door that doesn’t seal, a failing defrost system or a frozen drain. It can also happen when the door is left open for long periods and humid kitchen air gets in.

Can a walk-in be installed outside the building?

Yes. Many businesses in Tampa install the walk-in outdoors to save space. In that case we use a weatherproof box with a protective roof and take sun and rain exposure into account.

How much does it cost to install a walk-in cooler?

It depends on the size, temperature, location and refrigeration equipment you choose. After visiting your location we give you a clear, detailed quote.

Do you repair walk-ins installed by another company?

Yes. We repair and maintain walk-ins from any installer and the leading brands, such as Kolpak, Norlake, Heatcraft and others.
