Signs your refrigeration equipment needs repair
Call us as soon as you notice any of these signs; acting quickly can save the product you have stored:
- The temperature rises above normal or the unit’s alarm goes off.
- The compressor never stops or, the opposite, turns on and off every few minutes.
- Ice buildup on the evaporator, the walls or around the door.
- Water on the floor or puddles under the unit.
- Loud noises: humming, knocking or fans that scrape.
- Condensation or sweating on glass, doors or panels.
- Doors that don’t seal or torn gaskets.
- Your business’s electric bill goes up even though your operation hasn’t changed.
The problems we repair most often
- Compressors that won’t start, overheat or trip on thermal overload.
- Refrigerant leaks: we locate the leak, repair it and recharge to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Condenser and evaporator fan motors.
- Defrost systems that don’t work: heaters, timers and defrost thermostats.
- Out-of-calibration temperature controls, sensors and thermostats.
- Expansion valves and solenoids.
- Clogged or frozen drains.
- Door gaskets, hinges and closers that let the cold escape.
- Electrical problems: contactors, capacitors, relays and loose connections.
Equipment we repair
Walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-in refrigerators and freezers, refrigerated prep tables, display cases and merchandisers, beverage coolers, ice machines and condensing units. How we work
- You call us or fill out the form. Tell us which unit is failing and what’s stored in it, so we can prioritize the visit.
- Complete diagnosis. We check the electrical components, refrigerant, defrost, fans and seals to find the cause, not just the symptom.
- Clear quote. We explain what’s wrong, what it costs to fix and, if a repair doesn’t make sense, what your options are.
- Repair and test. We do the work and confirm the unit pulls down to and holds the correct temperature before we leave.
Repair or replace?
If the equipment is old, uses a refrigerant that’s being phased out or needs expensive repairs again and again, replacing it may cost you less in the medium term. We’ll tell you honestly, with numbers. See our commercial refrigeration installation service.

Frequently asked questions
What should I do if my commercial refrigerator stops cooling?
Keep the doors closed as much as possible, make sure the unit has power and the thermostat hasn’t been moved, and check that the condenser isn’t blocked by dust or boxes. If the temperature keeps rising, move the most sensitive products to another unit and call us for a diagnosis.
What temperature should a commercial refrigerator be?
For foods that require refrigeration, the FDA Food Code calls for holding them at 41 °F (5 °C) or below. Freezers usually run around 0 °F (-18 °C). If your equipment can’t hold those temperatures, it needs to be checked.
Why is ice forming in my freezer or walk-in?
It’s usually caused by a failing defrost system, a door that doesn’t seal well or a frozen drain. Ice blocks airflow and makes the unit work harder, so it’s best to take care of it quickly.
How much does commercial refrigeration repair cost?
It depends on the equipment and the problem. Replacing a fan motor doesn’t cost the same as repairing a refrigerant leak or a compressor. After the diagnosis we give you a clear price before doing any work.
Do you repair refrigeration equipment of all brands?
Yes. We work with the leading commercial refrigeration brands, including True, Traulsen, Turbo Air, Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, Kolpak and Heatcraft, among others.
